Canine V - Elective: From Head To Tail: Treatment for Common Canine Conditions

Course Description:
This two-day laboratory course will provide the participant with hands-on experience for the treatment of dogs. Topics will include range of motion, massage, joint mobilization, practical therapeutic exercise without machines and emerging modalities. This course is designed to provide participants with a significant portion of lab time to experience hands-on techniques with dogs and assist the participant in direct treatment techniques for their canine patients.

Prerequisites
Participant must:

  • Participant must be a Veterinarian, Veterinary Technician, Physical Therapist, Physical Therapist Assistant, Occupational Therapist or an actively enrolled student in on of these fields.
A minimum of one elective is required for all participants.


Outline

Learning Outcomes:

  •  Participant will identify through palpation significant bony and muscular landmarks of the canine
  • Participant will perform a basic evaluation inclusive of range of motion, joint play, soft tissue restrictions and strength
  •  Participant will be introduced to the principles of different types of massage and be able to safely and effectively apply them to the dog
  • Participant will be introduced to the principles of joint mobilization and be able to safely and effectively apply them to some of the joints of the dog
  • Participant will be able to perform therapeutic exercises to the dog with minimal equipment in a safe and effective manner
  •  Participant will recognize the basic principles of laser therapy and be able to safely apply it to a case load
  • Participant will recognize the basic principles of shockwave therapy and any other new, emerging modalities

● Certificates of Attendance will be given to all participants and may be used for those who need C.E.U. verification and credits.

● Participants will be required to sign a Release of Liability prior to the commencement of this seminar.
