COURSE OBJECTIVES - LEARNING OUTCOMES:
At the end of this course the student should be able to:
1) Classify muscles roles based on function & dysfunction
2) Understand the development of movement and stability dysfunction
3) Analyze the inter-relationship between restriction and compensation in articular and myofascial tissues
4) Identify and palpate all relevant landmarks, ligaments and muscles of the lumbo-pelvic region
5) Perform and interpret the relevance of tests of rib mobility
6) Demonstrate the ability to choose appropriate and apply articular or myofascial techniques to restore normal thoracic and rib function
7) Develop a home exercise program to maintain mobility and function after manual mobilization
8) Clinically assess thoracic and ribcage motor control strategies to identify and diagnose the site and direction of uncontrolled movement and retrain direction specific dysfunction
9) Assess and rehab local stabilizer function at the hip
10) Identify and correct global imbalance in stabilizer - mobilizer function
11) Develop an evidence based management plan to improve functional control
12) Use clinical reasoning to prioritize initial management and plan a progression of rehab
13) Apply rehabilitation strategies to manage thoracic stability dysfunction
14) Use re-assessment tools to guide the rate of progression of an individual patient through their rehab program
