Leonard Matheson is an internationally-recognized expert in the field of industrial rehabilitation. For the last twelve years he has been the Director of the Employment and Rehabilitation Institute of California (ERiC). He was previously employed for ten years at Rancho Los Amigos Hospital. where he specialized in vocational rehabilitation.

He is an Adjunct Assistant Professor at the Washington University School of Medicine Occupational Therapy Program and is an Associate Clinical Professor at the University of Southern California School of Physical Therapy. He is a Certified Vocational Evaluator, Certified Rehabilitation Counselor, and Licensed Psychologist.

Dr. Matheson was a founder of Work Evaluation Systems Technology (WEST) where he was Vice President of Research and Development until 1986. developing several tests that are in widespread use throughout the United States, Canada, and Australia. He is a cofounder of the Ergonomic Rehabilitation Research Society. He is also a consultant to employers, hospitals and rehabilitation centers throughout the United States and Canada.

He is the author of Work Capacity Evaluation: Interdisciplinary Approach to Industrial Rehabilitation (1986), coauthor of Work Tolerance Screening (1982), along with numerous journal articles, professional papers, and chapters in professional texts. He is an associate editor of the Industrial Rehabilitation Quarterly, the Journal of Occupational Rehabilitation, and the multidisciplinary journal. WORK.

He has been a member of the CARF Board of Trustees since 1988 and serves on the Standards Committee.
