Dealing with patients both pre- and post -operatively will be extensively covered as well as the most common reasons leading to the need for surgical procedures and tips on how to avoid them.

Behavioral Objectives

  1. Upon successful completion of this course, the participants will be able to incorporate the Valgus Extension Overhead test into the evaluation of an overhead throwing athlete to determine the likelihood of a UCL injury vs. a bony stress reaction or osteophyte.
  2. Upon successful completion of this course, the participants will be able to design a comprehensive, non-operative rehab program using the 4 components discussed for the management of an overhead thrower with an osteophyte.
  3. Upon successful completion of this course, the participants will be able to integrate Valgus Stress testing of the UCL for an overhead athlete in both supine and prone positions.
  4. Upon successful completion of this course, the participants will be able to critique the O’Driscoll Maneuver as used for pain provocation in the overhead throwing athlete.
  5. Upon successful completion of this course, the participants will be able to justify one difference in the management of a UCL strain for an athlete who plays contact sports versus an athlete who throws overhead.
  6. Upon successful completion of this course, the participants will be able to analyze 2 disadvantages to the operative management of an overhead throwing athlete with an osteophyte.
  7. Upon successful completion of this course, the participants will be able to design 2 treatment modalities or strategies for the rehabilitation program of an athlete with elbow tendinosis.
