Learning Goals

Upon completion of this class, you should be able to:

  • Summarize the principles and technique guidelines for applying Mobilization with Movement (MWM)
  • Describe MWM techniques specifically to the hand, wrist, shoulder girdle, lumbar spine, knee, ankle, and foot

Behavioral Objectives

UNIT 1. Overview of the Mulligan Concept

1. Upon completion of the course, the participant will be able to develop a RTP protocol using MWM for an athlete with a non-operable ACL injury.

2. Upon completion of the course, the participant will be able to defend the use of MWM for treatment of a patient with shoulder pain.

3. Upon completion of the course, the participant will be able to define the elements of the acronym CROCS and its relevance in a patient with ankle dysfunction.

UNIT 2. Guidelines for the Mulligan Concept

1. Upon completion of the course, the participant will be able to describe the three Body Part Classification Guidelines for the Mulligan Concept and list one joint for each category for treatment of a patient with chronic pain.

UNIT 3. MWM Techniques for the Hand

1. Upon completion of the course, the participant will be able to develop a MWM treatment plan for a patient with loss of motion in a PIP joint.

UNIT 4. MWM Techniques for the Scaphoid

1. Upon completion of the course, the participant will be able to develop a scaphoid technique in both an open and closed position using MWM for a patient presenting with wrist pain

UNIT 9. Techniques for the Shoulder Girdle Part 1

1. Upon completion of the course, the participant will be able to develop an evaluation to determine whether the use of MWM for a patient with shoulder pain will also require cervical mobilization.

UNIT 10. MWM Techniques for the Shoulder Girdle Part 2.

1. Upon completion of the course the participant will be able to demonstrate MWM in the glenohumeral joint to restore pain free flexion when the humerus/humeral head is the offending positional fault for a patient with shoulder pain.

2. Upon completion of the course, the participant will develop a RTP MWM protocol using a belt to the glenohumeral joint while the patient is sitting, and who presents with a painful arc.

UNIT 11. MWM Techniques for the Shoulder Girdle Part 3.

1. Upon completion of the course, the participant will be able to develop a plan to implement MWM for a patient with scapula dysfunction presenting 3 positional faults

UNIT 23. Lumbar SNAGS

1. Upon completion of the course, the participant will be able to demonstrate the use of a self-SNAG technique using a mobilization belt for a patient with lumbar pain and ROM loss.

2. Upon completion of the course, the participant will be able develop a manual SNAG technique for a patient with painful lumbar spine and painful ROM.

UNIT 27. Techniques for Tight Hamstrings and Quadriceps

1. Upon completion of the course, the participant will be able to develop a traction technique using flexion or abduction for an athlete with hamstring tightness

2. Upon completion of the course, the participant will be able to demonstrate a two-person MWM technique utilizing a belt and another colleague, for use on a patient with quadriceps and hip flexor tightness.

UNIT 28. Techniques for Tight Adductors and Abductors

1. Upon completion of the course, the participant will be able to develop a protocol using one distraction and passive stretch technique for the adductors using a mobilization belt for a patient with adductor tightness.

2. Upon completion of the course, the participant will be able to evaluate the efficacy of the distraction and passive stretch technique using a mobilization belt for a patient with TFL tightness

UNIT 29. MWM Techniques for the Elbow

1. Upon completion of the course, the participant will be able to demonstrate an MWM for the elbow and olecranon for a patient with tennis elbow that includes pain or loss of motion

2. Upon completion of the course, the participant will be able to develop a treatment plan using the Mulligan Concept with MWM for a patient with elbow dysfunction

UNIT 30. MWM Techniques for the Ankle

1. Upon completion of the course, the participant will be able to develop and implement a protocol for a follow-up taping strategy for a patient with an ankle sprain who presents pain with inversion.
