Description:

Evaluation & Treatment of Rotator Cuff Pathologies; Tendinitis to Tears; Non-Operative, Surgery & Post Operative Rehabilitation

Rotator cuff pathologies is a common lesion seen in individuals of all ages, from older to younger active people. There are approximately 600,000 rotator cuff repair surgeries performed annually in the United States. It has been established that approximately 6 million people above the age of 60 yrs. of age exhibit a rotator cuff tear. Additionally, middle-aged and younger active people also exhibit rotator cuff pain from tendinitis and tendonosis. Often, shoulder pain can be debilitating.

The purpose of this Master Class webinar is to discuss and describe the best methods of evaluating the patient with rotator cuff pain and discuss and illustrate the proper & most effective treatment. We will explain and describe appropriate decision making, well well-designed individualized rehabilitation program based on the unique injury & surgery of the patient, and new proven functional return to play testing, all based on evidence-based medicine.

Agenda:

  1. Introduction
    1. Incidence of rotator cuff lesions
    2. Classification of the Lesion
    3. Mechanism of injury/lesion occurrence
    4. Factors affecting the patients’ recovery
  2. Evaluation Techniques
    1. Subjective history
    2. Clinical exam
    3. Radiographs

    2. Open discussion
    3. Summary of key points

Learning Objectives:

At the completion of the webinar the participate will be able to achieve the following for patients with a rotator cuff lesion:

  1. Define the anatomy and biomechanics
  2. Design & demonstrate a complete clinical examination, including a thorough subjective history & physical examination.
  3. Interpret the information obtained from the clinical examination & functional assessment and develop a treatment plan based on involved structures.
  4. Understand various surgical procedures for the treatment of rotator cuff tears.
    1. Following in space balloon procedure
    2. Following superior capsular reconstruction procedure
    3. Following rotator cuff repair surgery
  5. Discuss & describe treatment interventions such as orthobiologics, steroid injections, debridement, and surgical interventions.
  6. Design an evidence-based medicine rehabilitation program for rotator cuff patients.
  7. Design and discuss a rehab program based on the specific surgery performed
  8. Design a specific return-to-play or return-to-sports functional assessment testing program
  9. Analyze the specific data from the return to sports functional tests and determine readiness.
  10. Integrate the information presented in this webinar and demonstrate problem-solving skills through the development of treatment plans of the specific case studies presented.
  11. Design & demonstrate a thorough rehabilitation program for specific complications following rotator cuff injury &/or surgery.
